The Right Honourable Sir Anerood JUGNAUTH, GCSK, KCMG, QC
The Right Honourable Sir Anerood Jugnauth, born on 29 March 1930, is Minister Mentor, Minister of Defence and Minister for Rodrigues.
The Right Honourable Sir Anerood Jugnauth holds a LLB from the Lincoln’s Inn, University of London. He was called to the Bar in 1954.
Elected for the first time as member of the Legislative Assembly for the Constituency of Rivière du Rempart in 1963, he has been returned in the Constituency of Piton-Rivière du Rempart in seven General Elections from 1976 to 2014. He served as Leader of the Opposition during the 1976-1982 period. In 1982, following a landslide victory in the General Elections, he became Prime Minister of Mauritius. He remained in Office as Prime Minister until 1995. He was again appointed as Prime Minister for the period 2000 to 2003 after the General Elections of 2000. Thereafter he became the President of the Republic until March 2012. Following the December 2014 elections, he obtained a sixth mandate as Prime Minister. On 23rd January 2017, he resigned as Prime Minister and was appointed Minister Mentor, Minister of Defence and Minister for Rodrigues.
The Right Honourable Sir Anerood Jugnauth is holder of several prestigious local and international Awards, including the Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) since 1988.
The Right Honourable Sir Anerood Jugnauth is married to Lady Sarojni Jugnauth and is father of two children.
